One has a hard time imagining K-school or Law grads defending their theses to FAS faculty, but it certainly appears that there are cases in which a diversity on the dissertation committee is clearly called for. Perhaps if not a hard rule on requiring n committee members, at the least an oversight board on committee composition, across the University's graduate programs? And one with real teeth, not just a signature mill...Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06425182901548329436noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3116442395849122822.post-24999540370009311632013-05-20T19:19:25.723-07:002013-05-20T19:19:25.723-07:00Harry,
Excellent article!! You nailed it! Yo...Harry,
Excellent article!! You nailed it! You helped me to see the flaws in Jason's thesis. I think one really only needs to take 2 simple steps to see the huge flaws with Jason's thesis. First go to wiki and type in "the bell curve". There you'll see the inherent flaws in IQ statistics. Next, if you go to APA (American Psychological Association) webste you'll see the APA categorically denies that there is any "true" measure of intelligence. They'll say there are good measures but all are flawed. Therefore, Jason's thesis is entirely flawed. It's intellectual rubbish.

Timothy Hayes, Ph.D.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05069038539280787332noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3116442395849122822.post-18556555211049738392013-05-20T19:17:04.769-07:002013-05-20T19:17:04.769-07:00Harry,

I would have been happier, since this is an FAS degree, if Jencks were a member of an FAS department, psychology or sociology or government perhaps. If the professional school faculties are as good at this kind of scholarship as the FAS departments, then FAS should not have hegemony over the PhD.Harry Lewishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17088418333536732728noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3116442395849122822.post-16519514589946543182013-05-20T10:00:40.107-07:002013-05-20T10:00:40.107-07:00If you don't think Christopher Jencks, who has...If you don't think Christopher Jencks, who has written a lot about racial differences in IQ and academic achievement (for example the book "Black-White Test Score Gap" was qualified to bet Richwine's thesis, who would have been?

What evidence do you have that Richwine's facts are wrong?
Quanthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01331772613078493504noreply@blogger.com
